The starting point for PAE Akratitos was APO Akratitos, which was established in 1963. The new club gave the Ano Liosia youngsters a way to express themselves through sports during a historic and critical in time period. Up until then, athletics had not taken an official role yet. The clubs that were present, were put together by a few individuals who did not have the financial backing needed to compete in the official championships. On the other hand, those clubs would compete in unofficial games and had a strong following as well. The place used for such games is the present Hroon Square where the Ano Liosia town-hall resides.
The creation of PAE Akratitos meant that the team could compete in the amateur championship held in the Attica prefecture. Without strong financial backings, but built on players that came up through the Ano Liosia ranks, Akratitos had a great run that made the team known to the entire Attica region. The most important things of all though was that the team was able to bring together the Ano Liosia community. |
